The Third Man
From Vienna in the 1930s to England in the 1940s, and back, The Third Man is a novel about dispossession, exile, and the search for justice and humanity. Focusing on two Jewish families, the book zeroes in on two individuals from those families who have to make difficult moral choices—one, a young girl who, growing up in a new country, is forced to reconsider her allegiances; the other, a young man who joins the British Army and eventually returns to his home to track down the person who epitomizes the terrible things that have happened.
